Accidents involving motor vehicles are always brutal. The brutality is seen and experienced by thousands of people/families in New York every year. Many people die while some are lucky to escape with inevitable injuries.

Most often, such accidents happen because of unforeseen things.  Auto accident attorneys in the Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, New York and Long Island deal with many such cases every year. The brutality of motor vehicle accidents was again evident on February 14, 2018 in Suffolk County on Long Island. Five people lost their lives in this tragic incident.

What Exactly Happened?

The accident happened at about 11:20 am, local time on Route 25 near Woodlot Road in Ridge, Suffolk County. According to the police report, a motorist, who was trying to escape from pursuit in a stolen 2018 Chevy Camaro, is responsible for the crash.

The Camaro, stolen on Tuesday, collided with a 2012 Mazda traveling east and an oil tanker travelling west. The collision was so powerful that the Mazda went on to hit a 1999 Infiniti. The Camaro was being chased by a police unit. However, the unit chasing the car was not in full chase mode, said the police.

At least four people died because the Mazda burst into flames after the collision. The fifth casualty on-the-spot was the motorist driving the stolen Camaro. As for the drivers of Infiniti and the oil tanker, the police expect them to survive.

The stolen Camaro was being driven by a 19-year old teen, Londell Skinner, who was accompanied by Jamel Turner, aged 23. Skinner died inside the car whereas Jamel suffered non-life-threatening injuries. He was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment.
