Union Construction Laborer injured during demolition – $300,000.00

Construction workers have a very difficult job that is both physically demanding and highly prone to injury. Our client was responsible for the demolition of a major transportation hub on the border of New York and New Jersey. During the demolition, the general contractor and the owner of project were walking the job site and ordering subcontractors to perform additional work. They did not provide my client with the proper safety equipment to perform the work they requested and he severely injured his shoulder requiring surgical repair. As a result of this injury, after being in the construction industry for over 20 years, he was forced to retire. The Law Firm of Vaughn, Weber & Prakope, P.L.L.C. was able to obtain a settlement on this clients’ behalf and negotiate the significant Worker’s Compensation lien that resulted.

MTA Bridges and Tunnel Officer injured on duty – $300,000.00

MTA Bridges and Tunnel officers put their lives on the line to protect us all every time they make a traffic stop. They have to protect our bridges and tunnels from numerous threats including terrorism, dangerous drivers and emergency situations. They are the gatekeepers of New York and often the first line of defense for our great city. Our veteran MTA B&T Officer attempted to pull over a semi-truck that was making an illegal turn and nearly caused a traffic accident when she was rear-ended by a box truck that was not paying attention to the road. She dislocated her shoulder and suffered a SLAP tear that required surgical repair. On the eve of trial our experienced trial attorneys settled her case for $300,000.00. Further, through our negotiations, we were able to reduce her Worker’s Compensation lien to zero.

Stryker Hip Recall Settlement
On July 6, 2012, the Stryker Corporation, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of medical equipment and orthopedic devices, recalled two of its artificial hip implant systems: the Rejuvenate Modular and ABG II Modular-Neck Hip Stems. The company stopped all global sales and production of these components.
Patients who received this metal on metal hip implant device suffered a range of symptoms and diseases ranging from metalosis, tissue and bone death, necrosis of the hip joint, to death. The Law Firm of Vaughn, Weber & Prakope, P.L.L.C., represented several clients to successful conclusion of their claims for a substantial settlement.

Con Edison Employee injured on a job site – $125,000.00
A Con Edison Employee with over 35 years of experience on the job was injured during construction of a major electrical tunnel project when one of the subcontractors, also working on the job, negligently exposed a pre-existing conduit and created a three-foot trench which all workers had to cross over to enter a portion of the job site. The Con Edison employee significantly injured his shoulder which had previously been injured and repaired to full capacity. Through meticulous litigation and thorough preparation of his case, we were able to obtain a settlement of $125,000.00 on behalf of this senior worker.

NYC Public School Teacher injured by students – $125,000.00
We all read the horror stories of what some of our NYC Public School Teachers are forced to endure by rowdy, disrespectful students. And some of the more outrageous stories reach the media. This was the case for an experienced NYC Public School teacher in Queens whose multiple reports of physical, racial and emotional abuse by her students went not only unanswered by the schools administration, but, she was retaliated against for making the complaints in the first place. After months of complaints made to the deans, vice principals, and the principal about children in her class cursing, spitting at her, hurling racial slurs, threatening violence, following her out to her car at night, a classroom roughhousing incident, landing the teacher in the emergency room requiring surgery on her knee. No one should be subjected to the abuse that this teacher was put through. After tough litigation and mediation, the Law Firm of Vaughn, Weber & Prakope, P.L.L.C., and with the aid of an attorney with a strong background in Civil Rights Litigation, we were able to secure a $125,000.00 settlement on behalf of the teacher who is now transferred to another school and is much happier.

Single Mother injured on public bus when bus crashed with another vehicle – $100,000.00
A single mother was severely injured on a public bus while she was taking her daughter to pre-school. During the middle of morning rush hour traffic, a public bus was involved in a car crash forcing the bus to violently thrust forward, throwing passengers around the inside of the bus. Because the bus was filled over capacity, a heavy male passenger fell forward on top of our client causing significant injuries to her neck, shoulder and leg. After years of litigation and a hard fought mediation, the case was settled just prior to jury selection with the mediators at NAM.

Senior citizen injured when a large delivery truck rear-ended his vehicle – $75,000.00
A self-employed senior citizen traveling from his apartment in New York City to his office was rear-ended by a large delivery truck approaching a red light. The client suffered significant neck, shoulder, back and wrist injuries. However, the client had several pre-existing, but asymptomatic, injuries that complicated the damages portion of his case. The Law Firm of Vaughn, Weber & Prakope, P.L.L.C. was able to obtain a large settlement on this clients behalf just prior to trial.
